The Truth About 3
Kansas City already has a new smoking law that works and treats everyone equally. Smoking is already banned in restaurants and most public places. Question 3 is really about allowing smoking in casinos, while banning it in bars. What Question 3’s supporters won’t tell you is that it also brings smoking back to the concourses at Truman Sports Complex.
Question 3 gives an advantage to casinos. The United States of America is founded on the principles of freedom and equality. Our laws are meant to treat people fairly. Question 3 gives an unfair competitive advantage to big corporate casinos at the expense of small businesses like bars. We don’t need an ordinance to ban smoking in bars, because customers can vote with their feet and go to a non-smoking bar if that is what they choose.
Question 3 doesn’t keep kids away from secondhand smoke. Question 3 wants to reverse the smoking ban at Truman Sports Complex and permit smoking to return to the public concourses. Question 3 actually rolls back the reasonable smoking law that keeps kids away from secondhand smoke. Question 3 is a step in the wrong direction.
